Charles Barkley and $1,700 worth of wine and tequila

May 18, 2015 By Roy

All over the news today, “Turner broadcasting wooed Charles Barkley with $1,700 of wine and tequila”. There was a chance Charles Barkley was not going to renew his contract with Turner so Turner Broadcasting System president David Levy and other Turner executives traveled to Scottsdale to visit Barkley in-person, at his home, and convince him to stay.

They brought with them, two magnums of 2009 Bond Estates St Eden Napa Valley Red and two bottles of 1942 Don Julio tequila.

Charles said, “My agent never got involved. That’s how much respect I have for David. David bought two bottles of wine, two bottles of tequila and we killed them. The money at this stage of my life does not matter. At this stage of my life, I’m not concerned about money. I shook David’s hand and said, ‘We got a deal.’ I told my agent, ‘We are not haggling or negotiating. Do the deal.’”

We have stocked the 2009 Bond Estates St. Eden Napa Valley Red and the 1942 Don Julio tequila. We don’t have them in stock at the moment however we can special order them at a very competitive price.

Patrón Releases Limited Edition Extra Añejo 7 Años For Sale in Las Vegas

March 12, 2015 By Roy

Patrón Añejo 7 Años Las vegasWe are pleased to announce a very limited supply of Patrón Limited Edition Extra Añejo 7 Años available at Roy’s Liquor in Summerlin. Distiller, Francisco Alcaraz has produced Patrón’s first 7 year old Patron tequila.

This release was not intentional. They checked the tequila after 8 months and decided to put it back in storage and 7 years went by. When they checked it again it was very different.

The Extra Añejo 7 Años is a blend of tequilas produced by two methods. The first is the traditional tahona, where the agave is crushed by a stone wheel and the juices are released and then re-absorbed by the fiber — the fiber is also included in the fermentation. Patrón claims to be one of the few distilleries still using this process. The second method is the roller, where the juices are squeezed out and separated from the fiber immediately. Each style is fermented separately in pine wood, and then double distilled in custom copper pot stills designed by Alcaraz. They were then blended together and aged in French oak.

Only 700 cases were produced and we have access. Please call or stop by to place your order.

2010 Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon available at Roy’s Liquor in Summerlin

December 7, 2014 By Roy

shafer hillside select 2010 summerlinAs super high quality wines go, you are either going to pay a premium price at a 5 star restaurant, buy a bottle/case at auction or get on a long waiting list at the vineyard. Such is the case with the September 2014 release of the 2010 Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon which is currently available at Roy’s Liquor in Summerlin, Nevada.

The Shafer Vinyards website states, “We are thrilled to offer 2010 Hillside Select, a 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from our rugged hillside vineyards in Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District. This release offers classic richness, youthful elegance and texture. The wine introduces itself with alluring, perfumy aromatics followed by flavors of blackberry, cassis, black cherry, dark chocolate, smoke, peppery spice and a touch of vanilla. The tannins are ripe and refined, holding out great promise for decades of cellar age.

Truly a “wine of a place,” this Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies the extraordinary richness and suppleness consistently produced in our little valley within a valley in the heart of Stags Leap District.

Hillside Select is aged a full four years prior to release (three years in Alliers and Tronçais oak barrels and 15 months in the bottle). While enjoyable today, this wine will gain richness and maturity with up to 20 years of careful cellaring.

If you go to the newsletter sign up page at the Shafer Vinyards website, they state you could be on the waiting list for as long as two years to get the opportunity to order a bottle of this wine.

case shafer hillside select 2010 las vegasAt wine.com a bottle recently sold for $379. We have a six bottle case in stock at this time. We may consider breaking the case but would prefer not to. If you have any interest at all, please stop by and see me.

And of course we have access to many hard to get quality wines and can place a special order for you, competitively priced.

We also have gift baskets.

Possible Bourbon Shortage On The Horizon?

November 12, 2014 By Roy

Burbons for sale summerlinI was reading an article today which discussed the high demand of Kentucky Bourbon. Shane Ferro of the Business Insider stated, “Because of the recent spike in popularity of the brown spirit, distillers, who generally need to age even the cheapest stuff for 8-10 years, are warning that a major shortage is coming.”

Here’s what Buffalo Trace had to say in its distillery email blast today:

Last year we warned consumers that a shortage was looming, but many markets across the nation are just now feeling the full effects. Along with increased production, adding more bottling lines and hiring more people, we have also hired a full-time barrel allocation manager, just as we intended last year. Despite the increase in distillation over the past few years, bourbon demand still outpaces supply. Bourbon must be matured in new oak barrels and we age many of our barrels for eight to ten years, and some over two decades. That’s a long time to wait for a bottle of bourbon. Not to mention, with the amount of bourbon lost to evaporation over time, barrels are half empty after ten years. The increase in sales, coupled with the aging process and evaporation loss, leads to a shortage with no end in sight. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we try to catch up!

We carry many rare bourbons at Roy’s Liquor in Summerlin including Buffalo Trace products. Most of our clients that appreciate fine liquors who have heard about the potential price increases, have been stocking up on the finest of bourbons. Please stop by to see our inventory. In addition, we can special order the hardest to find bourbons.
